Commissioned by Machinerie 54, a subsidised theatre of general interest, and Compagnie du Jarnisy (The Jarnisy Company).
The Company has created Le bal des Folles as part of its continuing research into participatory forms, this time with the particularity of echoing the text of Les Folles d’enfer de la Salepêtrière by Mâkhi Xenakis, and providing practical choreographic application of some feminist issues focusing on the moving body and the body in space. The show is about taking care of oneself before taking care of others, daring to take up room, daring to be noisy and joyfully impose oneself, tackling the concept of consent, the choice to make everything be in accord with the feminine. These are all notions which exist in the background of this Ball – a group healing process, gleefully frenzied and set to a femininely wild playlist.
